Overview

L-Arginine HCl / L-Lysine HCl

Bi-Amino combines two of the most clinically studied injectable amino acids in one formulation. L-arginine drives nitric oxide synthesis and growth hormone release. L-lysine provides the obligate substrate for collagen cross-linking, carnitine biosynthesis, and antiviral defense through arginine competition at shared cellular transporters. Together they address vascular health, connective tissue integrity, and immune function through complementary and partially synergistic mechanisms, while lysine's arginine-competition effect naturally modulates the HSV-permissive environment that arginine alone would create.

Mechanism of Action

L-arginine is converted by NOS enzymes to nitric oxide, activating soluble guanylate cyclase in vascular smooth muscle and driving vasodilation, tissue perfusion, and endothelial function. Arginine also inhibits hypothalamic somatostatin to increase pituitary GH pulse amplitude. L-lysine is the required substrate for lysyl hydroxylase in collagen proline and lysine hydroxylation, enabling collagen cross-linking and structural integrity. Lysine competitively inhibits arginine uptake at shared CAT-1/CAT-2 transporters, counterbalancing any excess arginine-driven HSV replication while preserving systemic nitric oxide activity. Lysine additionally provides substrate for carnitine synthesis via trimethyllysine, supporting mitochondrial fatty acid oxidation alongside arginine's mTORC1 activation of protein synthesis.

Injection

Administered intramuscularly ensures complete absorption and immediate bioavailability.

Benefits

Nitric Oxide + GH

Arginine supplies the substrate for eNOS-driven vasodilation and inhibits somatostatin to support growth hormone release from the anterior pituitary.

Collagen Support

Lysine provides the obligate substrate for collagen cross-link hydroxylation, supporting skin, tendon, ligament, and vascular connective tissue integrity.

Balanced Amino Delivery

Lysine's competitive inhibition at shared arginine transporters naturally modulates excess arginine-driven HSV activity without eliminating systemic nitric oxide benefit.

Dual Metabolic Support

Arginine activates mTORC1 protein synthesis signaling; lysine provides trimethyllysine for carnitine biosynthesis and mitochondrial fatty acid oxidation.

FAQs

What is Bi-Amino Injection?

Bi-Amino Injection is a prescription therapy used for amino acid support.

Who should use Bi-Amino Injection?

Patients seeking support for amino acid support may qualify after evaluation by a licensed provider.

Does Bi-Amino require a prescription?

Yes. This is a compounded injectable preparation containing two prescription amino acid actives, requiring a valid prescription from a licensed provider.

What are the possible side effects?

The arginine component may cause transient flushing, mild hypotension, or nausea at higher doses. High-dose combined amino acids may cause GI discomfort, electrolyte shifts, or transient headache. Injection site reactions are the most common effect.

Who should not use Bi-Amino Injection?

Not for patients with urea cycle disorders, severe hepatic impairment, or lysinuric protein intolerance. Patients with hypotension require careful monitoring given arginine's vasodilatory activity. Do not take if pregnant or breastfeeding. Patients with a history of kidney stones should discuss lysine's calcium-absorption effects with their provider.

Are there any drug interactions?

Arginine may potentiate antihypertensives and PDE5 inhibitors. Concurrent potassium-sparing diuretics or ACE inhibitors increase hyperkalemia risk with arginine use. Lysine may reduce metformin absorption at shared intestinal transporters; patients on metformin should disclose this to their provider.

Is Bi-Amino Injection safe if I have a pre-existing medical condition?

Patients with cardiovascular disease, renal impairment, hepatic disease, or electrolyte disorders require individualized provider evaluation before starting. Diabetic patients should monitor blood glucose given arginine's insulin secretagogue activity.
