FAQs

Does Tirzepatide ODT require a prescription?

Yes. Tirzepatide ODT is a prescription-only compounded medication dispensed through a 503A pharmacy following physician evaluation via telemedicine consultation.

What are the possible side effects?

Common side effects include nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, constipation, and abdominal discomfort, particularly during the first few weeks as your body adjusts. Your provider will typically start at a lower dose and titrate gradually to minimize these effects. Worsening of diabetic retinopathy has been reported — patients with a history of retinopathy should be monitored closely. Pancreatitis has been reported with this drug class — stop use and contact your provider immediately if you develop persistent, severe abdominal pain. In animal studies, GIP/GLP-1 receptor agonists have been associated with thyroid C-cell tumors; the relevance to humans is not established, but this medication is contraindicated in patients with a personal or family history of medullary thyroid carcinoma or MEN 2.

Who Should Not Use Tirzepatide ODT?

Contraindicated in patients with a history of medullary thyroid carcinoma, MEN 2, known hypersensitivity to tirzepatide, severe gastrointestinal disease, or pregnancy.

Are there any drug interactions?

Tirzepatide may slow gastric emptying, affecting absorption of other oral medications. Do not use with other GLP-1 or GIP receptor agonists. Cross-reactivity with GLP-1 agonists has been reported. Disclose all medications to your provider.

Is Tirzepatide ODT safe if I have a pre-existing medical condition?

Not recommended for patients with severe GI disease, active pancreatitis, or advanced renal impairment. Patients with diabetic retinopathy require careful monitoring. Full eligibility review is required prior to prescribing.
