FAQs

Does Sildenafil require a prescription?

Yes. Sildenafil is an FDA-approved prescription medication. A telehealth evaluation with a licensed provider is required before a prescription can be issued.

What are the possible side effects?

Common side effects include headache, facial flushing, nasal congestion, and indigestion. A temporary blue-green tint to vision may occur due to mild PDE6 inhibition in the retina — this is harmless and resolves quickly. Seek emergency care for any erection lasting longer than 4 hours (priapism). Rarely, sudden vision or hearing loss has been reported — discontinue use immediately and contact your provider if this occurs.

Who should not use Sildenafil?

Contraindicated in patients taking nitrates in any form -this combination can cause a severe, potentially fatal drop in blood pressure. Use with caution with alpha-blockers and antihypertensive medications. Not recommended for patients with severe cardiovascular disease, recent stroke or heart attack, or known hypersensitivity to sildenafil. Not for women or children.

Are there any drug interactions?

Sildenafil is significantly potentiated by CYP3A4 inhibitors, including ketoconazole, ritonavir, and other HIV protease inhibitors — dose reduction is required. Do not combine with nitrates or other PDE5 inhibitors. Disclose all current medications to your provider before starting.

Is Sildenafil safe if I have a pre-existing medical condition?

Patients with cardiovascular disease, hypotension, retinitis pigmentosa, or renal or hepatic impairment require careful provider evaluation and possible dose adjustment before use. Sildenafil is not appropriate for patients whose cardiovascular condition makes sexual activity inadvisable.
